Strategies for Success on the AP English Language Exam!

AP English Language is a tough course to “study” for. The test is not about your ability to memorize facts and figures and formulas, it’s about your ability to understand rhetoric and apply that knowledge to actual rhetorical situations. No need for fancy terminology, you’ve just got to have the skills!

That being said, here are a few tips to maximize your success on the AP English Language Exam:

1. Watch your timing!

2. Annotate like it’s your job

3. Plan your essay responses!

4. AP stands for ANSWER the PROMPT

5. Rhetorical appeals are NOT Rhetorical strategies

6. The synthesis response is an argument, NOT a tour of the sources.

7. Specifics, specifics, specifics on the argument prompt.

8. Answer ALL of the questions

Good luck!!
