Experience

  • Total years of tutoring experience: 8+ years
  • One of my first tutoring experiences was working for the Math and Science center at my high school and then working as a peer tutor/counselor to middle school students through the National Honors Society program.
  • I took on tutoring and teaching more seriously when I began working as a teaching assistant for Chemistry Lab at Columbia in 2013. I then continued working as a peer tutor for 1-1 and small group settings teaching Chemistry and Chemistry Lab in 2014.
  • I helped students on SAT (Math, Writing, and Reading), SAT Subject Tests (Chemistry, Physics, and Math) as well as the ACT test, and the college application process.

Profile

Why Tiffany loves teaching:
Given the fortunate opportunities to education and a commitment to life-long learning, I look towards teaching and tutoring as ways to contribute back to the system. When I first started tutoring at Columbia, I figured it would be a great way to help students achieve a good grade. Little did I know how the transformation of each student in both academic performance and intellectual curiosity will change the way I teach. Now, I see tutoring as a tool for me to help students reach their potential and to become critical thinkers who are ready to tackle problems. More importantly, I see tutoring as a way for me to inspire my students a sense of curiosity to learn more. Each student has different potentials. Each student has different learning styles. Thus, I try to engage with my student as much as I can to gear my method to what suits them the most.

An interesting fact about Tiffany:
I helped found the first Columbia campus-wide food magazine in 2012. I also love meditating, skiing, and taking black-and-white film photography.

Student Reviews

"She made sure that I understood the topics"
- Physics Student
"Tiffany really helped me prepare for my physics test. She made sure that I understood the topics and we went through everything that I needed to go through. The way Tiffany helped me, it allowed me to very clearly understand the material and answer any questions I may have had before the session."

"When I repeatedly failed to achieve my goal, she never gave up on me but instead encouraged me to keep trying."
- Samuel
"I was lucky enough to have Tiffany as my ACT tutor and college consultant last summer. My goal was to get 32+ on ACT, and we worked together towards that goal.  Every time I finished a practice test, she would go over all the questions I got wrong and then tell me ways to avoid those mistakes. Her explanations were always on point and made sense. When I repeatedly failed to achieve my goal, she never gave up on me but instead encouraged me to keep trying. She also helped me with my college essays time after time. No matter how busy she was, she would already make time to read and edit my essays. She was particularly good at expressing my sentences in a more concise way. She knew what she was doing and she did all she could to assist me throughout my whole college application process. Seriously, I wouldn't know what to do if I did not have her help. She was very passionate, and was always ready to help when I needed her. I give her teaching a 10 out of 10 and recommend her to anyone who is struggling with college applications!"
